Overview
The programme is in two stages, four weeks in India and two weeks in the UK.
English Preparation Stage (in India)
All candidates require a minimum IELTS 5.0 /5.5 or NARIC equivalence.
Duration
2 weeks in the first instance – option to continue for an additional one or two weeks where the candidate requires further training in speaking and listening, or wishes to continue while waiting for their visa. An online English language option is available via the training team and can be followed at any time.
Prior Assessment
Every candidate will be reviewed during this first two weeks , and before they start the taught programme, to establish their competence against specific criteria that are determined by the British qualifications system. All candidates will be expected to have completed the NQF Level 2 in Health and Social Care (Adults). Given that the candidates have qualifications and experience which are relevant, their prior attainment can be measured and count towards the qualification. Additionally, the candidate will need to have additional content added on – see below.

By the end of the Preparation course, the candidate will be able to:
- Apply language skills to a range of healthcare contexts and situations. For example: using adjectives to describe symptoms, using vocabulary related to problems/solutions and causes/effects
- Interpret different genres typical of healthcare, including instructions, notes, reflective journals, registration forms
- Explore new vocabulary and terminology relating to healthcare
- Identify suitable communication modes for different professional situations, for example when giving instructions to patients
- Reflect on learning, and practice writing a reflective journal. Apply language skills to evaluate your experiences
- Collect and record medical information by reading and listening for specific information.
Methodology
This course will be delivered through a blended learning model. As applicants will come from all over India the majority will be delivered remotely, using trainers from the UK and India.
Certification
There is no formal assessment. All participants will be tested at the end of the three weeks and the scores added to their education and employment portfolio. Each participant will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
Stage 2
Candidates will automatically progress onto this part of the course. It is a prerequisite of the programme that all nurses must complete Stage 2 before they can move to their employment. However, it is not necessary that they have completed all parts of the Level 2 in Health and Social Care, as this can be done during the first few weeks of employment.Candidates will automatically progress onto this part of the course. Duration
In India 4 weeks then transfer to the UK for 2 further weeks.

Throughout the three weeks the nurse will be provided with ongoing opportunity to develop their English, though access to online materials and extra-curricular activities. This part of the programme will take place outside the main study periods.

By the end of the four week course the candidate will be able to:
Understand the operation of the care system in England
Understand the typical structure and organisation of a care home and how it fits into the range of health care services that exist around it.
Be familiar with the typical cultural aspects of British life as they impact on the care task.
Have a sufficient knowledge of health and safety standards in a care setting, and be familiar with the safeguarding requirement when working with vulnerable adults.
Understand the main requirements for living safely and legally in the UK.
Methodology
The course will be blended online and taught. Each nurse will have their previous knowledge and experience assessed, and some modules may be changed as a result. The UK element of the programme will involve the some formal classroom sessions.
Certification
The course will provide the candidate with a UK accredited qualification in basic health and social care (Level 2) plus a Twin Certificate of Attendance.
